Dynamics of Motile Populations in Heterogeneous Environments

چکیده
Movement behavior of biological entities plays a crucial role in their destiny through regulating their intraspecific and interspecific interactions as well as their interaction with surrounding environment. In spite of various models for population dynamics, the effect of movement behavior and heterogeneity of environment on population dynamics has remained poorly understood. We introduced an extended version of Kolmogorov equation which captures movement behavior and translated our model to a biased random walk on percolation lattice. Then we explored the effect of mentioned topic on population dynamics, especially for intratumor heterogeneity, metastasis and immune surveillance. In the case of tumor, our result reveals that communication between cell colons and the structure of host tissue together regulate the intratumor heterogeneity. For metastasis, our model predicts that the interplay between the structure of metastatic niche and interactions between metastatic cells arrived from different colons determines that which kind of seeds, polyclonal or monoclonal, can successfully metastasized there. Finally, studying the immune cells-tumor cells interaction in this context reveals the negative effect of the heterogeneous structure of host tissue on immune surveillance. These findings deepen our understanding of cancer biology and may have applications in immunotherapy.

Heterogeneity in Connectivity of Habitat Networks Saves Stable Coexistence of Competing Species
The nature realizes stable biodiversity, even though it escapes naive theoretical predictions. Coexistence of competing species is known to be facilitated by, for example, structured populations, heterogeneous individuals, and heterogeneous environments, which in one way or another allow different species to survive in a segregated manner. In reality, individuals disperse and interact with each...
متن کاملAdaptive Dynamic Data Placement Algorithm for Hadoop in Heterogeneous Environments
Hadoop MapReduce framework is an important distributed processing model for large-scale data intensive applications. The current Hadoop and the existing Hadoop distributed file system’s rack-aware data placement strategy in MapReduce in the homogeneous Hadoop cluster assume that each node in a cluster has the same computing capacity and a same workload is assigned to each node. Default Hadoop d...
متن کاملInteraction of Bacterial Populations in Coupled Microchambers
When culturing bacteria in artificial microhabitats, such as in microfluidic devices, microchambers and microreactors, the ecological and microbiological aspects must be considered. In such devices and experiments cells often live in structured environments that from an ecological viewpoint could be considered “patchy” (i.e. with strong spatial heterogeneities and variations in suitability for ...
متن کاملEnvironmental colour intensifies the Moran effect when population dynamics are spatially heterogeneous
Evidence for synchronous fluctuations of spatially separated populations is ubiquitous in the literature, including accounts within and across taxa. Among the few mechanisms explaining this phenomenon is the Moran effect, whereby independent populations are synchronized by spatially correlated environmental disturbances. The body of research on the Moran effect predominantly assumes that enviro...
متن کاملAdaptive Distributed Consensus Control for a Class of Heterogeneous and Uncertain Nonlinear Multi-Agent Systems
This paper has been devoted to the design of a distributed consensus control for a class of uncertain nonlinear multi-agent systems in the strict-feedback form. The communication between the agents has been described by a directed graph. Radial-basis function neural networks have been used for the approximation of the uncertain and heterogeneous dynamics of the followers as well as the effect o...
